Abstract

A recent message from the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals highlighted a promising shift in global immunization equity, particularly in the administration of the third dose of the diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine (DTP3) [1]. This progress reflects a combination of intensified global efforts and community-driven solutions that have brought long-marginalized populations closer to life-saving vaccines. Yet, despite these improvements, substantial gaps remain, urging us to analyze not only what has worked but also where urgent action is still needed. Data from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) show upward trends in DTP3 coverage, offering signs of hope. Between 2000 and 2023, several nations saw a notable reduction in zero-dose children, those who had not received even the first dose of DTP, suggesting that health systems are becoming more inclusive [2, 3].
