Abstract
Since the time of the Ecumenical Councils, Christianity has taught that the Decalogue commandment «Thou shalt not kill» does not apply to enemies of God and the state. Despite this, the pacifism proclaimed by the Savior in the Gospel continues to be professed by most Protestant communities today. However, the realities of the Russian-Ukrainian war are gradually leading believers in Ukraine to the conclusion that their traditional pacifist worldview is unacceptable in the context of military defense of the country against an aggressor. As of today, anti-pacifist sentiments in Protestant communities are only growing stronger, which, in the end, may well lead the denomination to accept the idea of a just war on a theological level.
