Abstract

<p style=""text-align:justify;"">The third volume in the series Hyblaea. Studies in the Archaeology and Topography of the Hyblaean Plateau, launched in 2022 at the initiative of the Centro Studi Aditus in Rupe, confirms its role as a key editorial venue for research on the archaeology and ancient landscape of the Hyblaean Plateau. This geographically circumscribed area is characterised by an extraordinary density of human evidence, the interpretation of which requires specific and interdisciplinary methodological approaches. The selected essays present significant updates on a range of themes in archaeology and ancient topography, based both on the critical re-examination of well-known archaeographic data and on the presentation of new discoveries emerging from preventive archaeology investigations conducted by the relevant Superintendencies. A substantial section of the volume is devoted in particular to the results of recent research carried out within the areas under the jurisdiction of the Siracusa Superintendency for Cultural and Environmental Heritage and coordinated by its Heritage Protection Office. The organisation of the contributions follows a geographical criterion, ranging from the Ragusa area to the Lentini district, and extending to the region of Akrai and the Agro Acrense. Through the analysis of contexts covering a broad chronological span—from Prehistory to the Middle Ages—the volume offers new interpretative insights into the settlement, cultic and funerary dynamics of the region, as well as into its strategic role within the wider framework of ancient Sicily.
</jats:p>
