Abstract

This article describes the content, forms, and areas of social and educational support for low-income families raising children with disabilities in the context of current socioeconomic challenges in Ukraine. The relevance of the study is justified by the growing number of families facing difficult life circumstances due to military conflict, economic instability, loss of income, and the need to meet the special needs of a child with a disability. Scientific approaches to defining the concept of low-income status are analyzed, and the main factors causing a decline in families’ material well-being are highlighted, along with the specific challenges faced by families raising children with disabilities. The study describes the social, psychological, material, and educational difficulties faced by such families, including problems with access to quality medical, rehabilitation, and educational services, risks of social isolation, parental emotional burnout, and dependence on state assistance. The role of socio-pedagogical support is defined as a comprehensive system of measures aimed at improving the family’s quality of life, ensuring the rights of children with disabilities, and promoting their successful socialization. The content of the main areas of social-pedagogical work with the studied category of families is outlined: social prevention, social support, social services, and social-pedagogical guidance. Particular attention is paid to psychological and pedagogical support for parents, the family’s social adaptation and integration into the community, legal and informational protection, as well as interaction with inclusive resource centers. Three key areas for implementing socio-pedagogical support for low-income families raising children with disabilities are identified: socio-economic, advocacy, and comprehensive. It is emphasized that the effectiveness of support is ensured by the integration of various types of social services, interagency cooperation, and a focus on developing the family’s internal resources, its social activity, and responsibility for its own well-being.
