Sense of place based on shared imaginaries for caring for the chinampa socio‑ecosystem

<p>Sense of place refers to the meaningful connection that people establish with a space, which can either motivate or inhibit environmental care. Understanding the mechanisms that strengthen this connection is central to promoting sustainable ways of cohabiting a place. This study proposes imagining desired futures as a mechanism to mobilise a sense of place among young people from Xochimilco in Mexico City and to catalyse new forms of care. Drawing on a qualitative methodology, the study shows that this connection became a conscious, deliberate act that enabled reflection and collective visibility of bonds with place. The findings suggest that imagining futures expands the possibilities for collective care.</p>
