Abstract

Introduction: Cognitive Grammar considers trajectory and landmark and distinguishes between them based on saliency level. In Cognitive Grammar view, trajectory is more salient than landmark. Here, we challenged this notion by considering Cognitive Phonology and its roles in the Ezafe construct in Persian and Arabic in comparison to English and German languages. Method: We used qualitative comparative analysis using Dehkhoda, Oxford, Duden, and Forvo and العَین فی الُّلغة dictionaries and IUPAC nomenclature. Results: The results showed nuances among interested languages regarding trajectory and landmark saliency. Conclusion: Dialectical marks in Persian and Arabic in the Ezafe construct can modulate the trajectory and landmark saliency. Keywords: Cognitive grammar, phonology, attention
