Charm Oral Tradition of the Eastern Slavs: Essays

<jats:p>The book is a collection of the author's revised, supplemented and new works on the charm oral tradition of the Eastern Slavs. The monograph has four parts, touching upon different aspects of the study of the tradition. The first examines plots against snakes, which are widely used in the southern and western regions of Eastern Slavia; the second examines individual plots, functional groups and characters of plots in a broad folklore-mythological, book and manuscript and dialect context; the third chapter summarises the results of the areal study of East Slavic plots in comparison with South and West Slavic ones; and, finally, the fourth part consists of several essays touching upon the peculiarities of the language of plots. The book is addressed to folklorists, ethnologists, dialectologists and all those interested in the traditional spiritual culture of the East Slavic peoples.</jats:p>
