Abstract
<jats:p>The article in general deals with the problem of functioning of Ukrainian-language military vocabulary in conditions of full-scale hostilities. In conditions of general militarization of society, caused by the emergence and growth of armed conflicts at the international level and in Ukraine in particular, the problem of studying the development of the professional language of the military industry becomes relevant. This interest is also explained by the fact that military realities are becoming an indispensable part of everyday life and communication not only of the military, but also of ordinary citizens, permeating the language of various sectors of social life and reflecting current problems related to defense. The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the fact that at this stage of society’s development, military terminology has significantly replenished with new vocabulary and is widely used not only in professional military communication, but also in everyday communication. In this regard, the need for accurate and adequate translation of English-language military vocabulary is of crucial importance for effective international military cooperation. Military vocabulary was put in the focus of research by V. Balabin, M. Bilan, Yu. Zatsnyi, and others. A significant number of scientific works are focused on the translation of military vocabulary in mass media texts. The translation aspect of military terminology directly in military documents has not been sufficiently studied, therefore translators who apply universal models to specific military texts should focus primarily on adhering to the military style and correctly conveying foreign language realities. The purpose of the article is to study English military vocabulary in military documentation and the features of its translation into Ukrainian. To achieve the set goal, it is necessary to investigate the concept of military vocabulary in modern terminology; to clarify the structure of military terminology; to establish the features of the translation of military and military-technical terminology; to characterize special vocabulary in military texts. In military translation, the accuracy of translation is of crucial importance, since the translated material is the basis for making important decisions, conducting military operations, etc. Therefore, the correct translation of military material requires not only the accurate transmission of the content of the material, but also the careful transmission of its structural form, the order of presentation and many other elements that may be considered unnecessary and formal, but are of great importance for a military specialist. For example, in military documents, this is the order of the items and subitems, their designation (in Arabic numerals or Latin letters), the accuracy of dates and times, coordinates, geographical names, numbers and names of units and subdivisions and other data. Therefore, modern military terminology in Ukrainian and English is intensively developing and improving, reflecting the state of military science.</jats:p>
