Abstract

The study is devoted to the analysis of Azerbaijani expressive collocations and is conducted within the framework of combinatorial linguistics. The aim is to identify the specific features of these units and their role in conflict situations. The article examines the concepts of “collocation”, “expressive collocation”, and “conflict situation”. The object of the research is expressive collocations – combinatorially determined word combinations with a pronounced connotative component that reflects the speaker’s specific emotional attitude toward the subject of speech. The criteria for their identification include the connotative components of lexical meaning, namely: emotivity, evaluativeness, expressiveness, and stylistic affiliation. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that it provides the first comprehensive analysis of expressive collocations in conflict situations based on Azerbaijani linguistic material. The results of the analysis revealed that expressive collocations are characteristic of colloquial speech and arise during the clarification of interpersonal relationships in various conflict situations driven by negative speech reactions such as anger, aggression, dislike, irritation, and resentment. Furthermore, it was established that expressive collocations occupy a significant place in Azerbaijani linguoculture; they not only reflect emotions but also shape emotional thinking and behavior, while creating a frame of reference for the identification and interpretation of emotional states within the linguocultural tradition.
