Abstract
<jats:p>The paper examines the specific characteristics of Japanese manga texts, which are formed by their interconnected structural-linguistic and discursive features. It is this specificity that determines the linguistic and pedagogical potential of these texts and should be incorporated into localization training curricula. Therefore, the paper will thoroughly examine the linguistic, stylistic, genre, and sociocultural features of Japanese manga texts. To this end, the characteristics of manga texts as polycode discourse, combining written text, visual elements, cultural codes, and specific narrative formats, were analyzed. Furthermore, the possibilities of applying these texts in translator training were explored, with the aim of developing the knowledge, skills, and professionally important qualities required for localizing manga texts. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the developed sequence for the discursive analysis of manga texts and the integration of this analysis into the training process for Japanese localization translators. The research findings revealed that the Japanese manga texts examined contain a significant number of sociocultural elements. Handling these elements can pose difficulties at both the understanding and interpretation stages, as well as during translation and localization, thus highlighting the linguo-methodological potential of these texts for teaching localization to future translators.</jats:p>
