Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive study of the theoretical foundations of cultural memory and the mechanisms of its implementation within the framework of Ossetian ethnopedagogy. The relevance of the work is driven by the challenges of globalization, which pose risks to the preservation of ethnocultural identity and necessitate the search for sustainable mechanisms for transmitting national values. The author traces the evolution of the concept of cultural memory — from Maurice Halbwachs’ classical theories of collective memory to contemporary international studies on “memory culture” that view memory as a dynamic system of meaning interpretation. The study establishes a fundamental distinction between the concepts of cultural, historical, and social memory, emphasizing the role of institutional forms of knowledge transmission. A primary focus of the research is placed on the Ossetian pedagogical tradition. The Nart sagas are analyzed as a mythological foundation and a source of heroic archetypes that shape the moral guidelines of the youth. The author examines in detail the channels of cultural code transmission: family practices, the system of hospitality, and the unique etiquette of seniority (“khistæriūæg”), which ensures social responsibility and intergenerational continuity. Special attention is given to material heritage and traditional symbolism as visual carriers of the ethnic mnemonic codes. In the practical section, the author substantiates the systemic role of educational institutions in integrating the ethnopedagogical component. The study proposes the use of museum pedagogy, local history activities, and project-based learning methods for the active mastery of cultural heritage. The necessity of age-based differentiation of educational material is emphasized — from mythological plots in primary school to a deep analysis of ethnographic sources in senior classes. The article concludes that cultural memory acts as a stabilizing factor, preventing cultural disorientation and fostering the cultural competence of an individual in a modern multicultural society.
