Abstract
<jats:p>В данной статье автор возвращается к итогам раскопок в южной (Мартирьевской) паперти Новгородского Софийского собора в 1955 г. перед началом реставрации интерьера. В ходе раскопок были вскрыты склепы и саркофаги. В трех склепах найдены, кроме костей и других останков, драгоценные предметы личного благочестия, погребальная шапка, части кожаной обуви. Автор обращает внимание на наперсную иконку с изображением Спасителя и напрестольный крест в драгоценных оправах. Опираясь на топографию отчета М. К. Каргера и публикацию В.Л. Янина, он высказывает предположение о принадлежности предметов новгородскому владыке Варлааму, погребенному в Софийском соборе.</jats:p> <jats:p>This paper re‑examines the findings from the 1955 archaeological excavations at the southern (Martyrievskaya) porch of the St. Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod. These excavations were conducted prior to the commencement of interior restoration works. The excavations revealed multiple crypts and sarcophagi containing human skeletal remains, as well as significant artefacts. Notable discoveries in three of the crypts included precious devotional objects, a burial cap and fragments of leather footwear. Of particular significance are a pectoral icon bearing a representation of the Saviour and an altar cross, both of which are mounted in precious metal settings. Through the analysis of topographical data presented in M.K. Karger’s excavation report and V.L. Yanin’s subsequent publication, this study proposes that these artefacts can be attributed to Bishop Varlaam of Novgorod, who was buried in the St. Sophia Cathedral.</jats:p>
