Abstract
The purpose of this article is to provide new material for the study of the sources of The Register of Dames and Handsome Maidens, which had been known only as a result of the lubok tradition. A manuscript copy of The Tale of Dames and Handsome Maidens, recently discovered in codex from Russian National Library (Titov Collection, No. 1627, pp. 129-130), gives a good opportunity to compare two variants of this interesting and enigmatic text. However, it is impossible to specify precisely the exact time of writing The Register (or The Tale) of Dames and Handsome Maidens, while the suggestion that it appeared at the turn of the 18th century needs to be corrected. Attempts to identify the prototype of The Register and The Tale should be continued.
