Abstract
The article examines the transformation of higher education in the context of the widespread use of generative artificial intelligence and large language models. The object of the study is the educational process in a mod-ern digital environment; the aim is to identify ways to adapt it to the emergence of AI in students’ everyday lives. Based on an analysis of empirical studies and local surveys, the paper identifies key drivers of AI adoption, its advantages, and systemic risks, including reduced cognitive engagement and issues of academic dishonesty. It is shown that the traditional knowledge – skills – competencies model requires reconsideration. The study proposes adaptation measures, including the development of LLM-related competencies, the implementation of AI usage policies, the redesign of assessment practices, and the strengthening of self-directed learning. The article concludes that the integration of AI as a structural element of the contemporary educational environment is urgently needed.
