Abstract

<jats:p>The article analyzes the representative possibilities of landscape art in the works of I.I. Levitan as specific artis-tic ideals in the context of D.V. Pivovarov’s concept of culture as an ideal formation. The works of I.I. Levitan are presented as visual concepts – visual iconic structures in which the common and universal are sensually mani-fested in a unique way in a singular way. The dialectical content of the visual image is revealed in the process of artistic communication, revealing the supersensible in the secondary sensuality of the artistic image, repre-senting one or another facet of the universe to the viewer. The art of the Russian landscape of the second half of the 19th century in the works of I.I. Levitan is presented as an artistic representation of the values of national culture inherited by the national thought of the spiritual tradition of Orthodox Christianity, such as “contempla-tion”, “unity”, “conciliarity”. The content of the works of I.I. Levitan reveals himself in the aspect of the ontologi-cal, epistemological and communicative functions of art.</jats:p>
