Abstract

<jats:p>This article addresses the challenge of commenting on local words and collocations in “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A. Sholokhov, which are a distinctive feature of Sholokhov’s texts. To create a unique authorial style and convey the local color of the Don Cossacks’ life, the writer extensively used regional and provincial words and expressions. The article analyzes the main factors influencing the nature of commentary on the literary texts of M.A. Sholokhov: (1) type and kind of edition; (2) existing scholarly base necessary for creating an academic commentary; (3) personality of the writer and individual characteristics of his creative individuality, which define the distinctive features of his texts.</jats:p>
