Abstract
<jats:p>The 2024 Federal Law on the Development of Creative Industries in Russia provided the legal framework for extensive state support and the institutionalization of the domestic creative art sector. For instance, the art of animated cartoons has reached a totally new level over the past few years. Today, creative industries are strong enough to become a major driver of the domestic economy. This article describes the effect of digital transformation on Russian animation as a creative industry. While comparing creative industries in Russia and abroad, the authors summarized the current state support measures, analyzed the domestic animation market, and formulated a set of recommendations on the development of Russian animation in digital environment. Public statistical data revealed the degree of government support and the use of new technologies in animation. Access to high-speed internet and digital platforms is a driver of domestic animation, which raises its attractiveness through digital technologies, e.g., AI, 3D, virtual or augmented reality, etc. Its current focus is on the content tailored for unique genres, cultural topics, or certain demographic audiences.</jats:p>
