Abstract

Anti-Russian sanctions affect the country’s economy at the corporate, regional, and federal levels, threatening national security. This article identifies Russian regions that are particularly vulnerable to external threats. A review of publications on the economic consequences induced by foreign sanctions made it possible to develop a method for identifying priority regions with the lowest levels of economic security. The approach relied on hierarchical cluster analysis of economic security indicators. The obtained data were subjected to such economic and statistical methods as the analysis of absolute and relative indicators, mean values, and dynamics series, as well as an index approach. The levels of economic security and resilience potential varied significantly across the country. The authors propose a set of measures to bolster the economies of the most vulnerable regions based on their industrial profiles, socio-economic strategies, and available resources.
