Abstract
<title>Abstract</title> <p>Background Transradial amputation causes substantial functional limitation because it disrupts reach, grasp, object manipulation, and bimanual task performance. Prosthetic rehabilitation is essential to restore independence, reduce compensatory movement, and support participation in daily activities. Case presentation: A 52-year-old old right-hand-dominant male construction worker sustained a traumatic right transradial amputation after a high-impact machinery accident. After wound healing and stump conditioning, he was fitted with a custom body-powered transradial prosthesis comprising a laminated composite socket (acrylic resin and fiberglass), a figure-of-nine harness, a voluntary-opening hand, and a locking wrist unit. The socket was fabricated via plaster-cast rectification with defined reliefs and supracondylar trim lines; the lamination lay-up and alignment parameters are described. Intervention: The patient was fitted with a custom body-powered transradial prosthesis comprising a laminated composite socket (acrylic resin and fiberglass), a figure-of-nine harness, a voluntary-opening hand terminal device, and a locking wrist unit. Fabrication details, including casting, rectification, lamination lay-up, trim lines, and alignment parameters, are described. A structured rehabilitation programme was initiated, including donning-doffing training, control training, functional task practice, skin care education, and progressive home-based activity. Initial response and follow-up plan: At the time of discharge from the initial inpatient rehabilitation phase, the patient was independent in donning and doffing and could voluntarily open and close the terminal device with verbal cues. Formal functional outcome measures, including QuickDASH, Box-and-Block Test, and satisfaction rating, will be repeated at scheduled follow-up visits. Conclusion Individualised prosthetic prescription combined with structured early rehabilitation can provide a foundation for functional recovery after transradial amputation. This case highlights the value of patient-centred prosthetic management, meticulous socket design. Follow-up will determine the long-term functional outcome.</p>
