Abstract
<title>Abstract</title> <p> <bold>Objectives:</bold> An <bold/> exploratory study was conducted to determine the association of Subjective Happiness with the nocturnal heart rate and its correlation with day-time arterial blood pressure, heart rate variability and vascular sympathetic reactivity in young adults. <bold>Results:</bold> More-Happy group (n=27) and Less-Happy group (n=23) had similar level of % Dipping in nocturnal heart rate (15.73 % ± 8.24 vs. 15.31% ± 14.5). Nocturnal Heart Rate Maximum was significantly lower in the More-Happy group as compared to the Less-Happy group (102.63 ± 8.91 bpm vs. 108.3 ± 10.99 bpm, P: 0.04, Effect Size: 0.57, 95% Confidence Interval: -11.33, -0.06) while Nocturnal Heart Rate Minimum and Nocturnal Heart Rate Average were similar between the two groups. Nocturnal Heart Rate Maximum showed a stronger positive Pearson’s correlation with Baevsky Stress Index in Less-Happy group (r = 0.52) as compared to the More-Happy Group (r = 0.14). Nocturnal Heart Rate Maximum, Nocturnal Heart Rate Average and Nocturnal Heart Rate Minimum showed stronger positive correlation with the Day-time Diastolic Blood Pressure in Less-Happy group (r=0.58, r=0.55, r=0.51) as compared to the More-Happy group (r= 0.01, r=0.14, r=0.3). Nocturnal Heart Rate Average showed moderate negative correlation with day-time vascular sympathetic reactivity in both the groups. <bold>Trial Registration:</bold> Not Applicable </p>
