Abstract
<title>Abstract</title> <p>This study examines the understanding of a happy family among Vietnamese university students, using qualitative data from 84 participants in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Da Nang, Da Lat, Thai Nguyen, and Hanoi. Semi-structured interviews provided data that was thematically analyzed, resulting in the following key themes: emotional bonding, financial stability, harmony and unity, and child-rearing.The findings elucidate core defining components as mutual respect, trust, open communication, along with family resilience. These findings align with Vietnamese culture influenced by Confucianism which emphasizes collectivism. Also seen as important for the stability of the marriage and cohesion of the family unit was financial autonomy, especially for women, in addition to sociocultural participation in family functions. This study illustrates the contrast between modern urbanization and rising living expenses with persistent traditional expectations. Unlike in many foreign views, the individual autonomy and self-determination is of far less importance than collective welfare among Vietnamese students. Recommended further are multidisciplinary family support programs merged with communication, economic advising, and sophisticated parenting aimed at fostering family resilience.</p>
