Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <p>Welding process input parameters have significant impact on quality of weld joint. Quality of weld can be improved by selection of proper input process parameters and with suitable welding technique/process. During the welding of autogenous welding of challenging Beta titanium alloy current, nozzle to plate distance and shielding gas flow rate have been used as an important input parameters. In this paper, multi-objective optimization of TIG welding technique input parameters have been optimized to achieve the best quality of beta titanium joint. The quality of TIG welded joint without use of filler rod has been assessed in terms of tensile test and impact toughness test. To solve the multi-objective optimization problem, a grey-Taguchi method has been used. To evaluate the effect of individual factor on desired output results i.e. ultimate strength, percentage elongation, and toughness an Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) has been used. An additional confirmatory experiment was carried out to model. An improvement of 9% in grey relational grade was found at optimized parameters.</p>
