Abstract
<jats:p>The article presents for the first time the first years of the service of Fyodor Ivanovich Leontyev, the governor of Saratov. Fyodor Ivanovich Leontyev began his service at the court of Tsar Mikhail Romanov as a steward in late 1633, and a few years later he was promoted to the rank of stolnik. Under the new Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, he served as a voivode in the fortress of Yablonov on the Belgorod Line, then in the fortresses of Atemar and Saransk on the new Simbirsk Line, participated in campaigns against the Poles and Swedes in 1654–1656, and in 1658 was sent to Tambov as a voivode. The article also discusses other assignments of Fyodor Leontyev before his appointment as a voivode in Saratov in 1662.</jats:p>
