Abstract

<jats:p>he proposed analytical studies represent a generalized, scientifically verified result of research conducted by the staff of the Department of the History of Ukraine in the Second Half of the 20th Century within the framework of the research project "Ukraine under the Conditions of ‘Perestroika’, 1985–1991: Practices of Social Renewal.” The study examines the factor of the incomplete reforms of the "perestroika” period as one of the prerequisites for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and outlines scholarly and theoretical conclusions regarding the phenomenon of "perestroika.” The authors’ research also addressed specific current issues, such as public distrust and dissatisfaction expressed through practices of resistance to change; social strategies and practices of the nomenklatura; the religious situation in the Ukrainian SSR and the transformations of the Soviet archetype; the years of "perestroika” in the life of rural communities; and the social dimensions of the informational discourse on the Chornobyl disaster.</jats:p>
