Jadwiga Lechicka – kobieta nowa i nowoczesna. Kulturowy porządek i relacja płci w historiografii polskiej

<jats:p>Jadwiga Lechicka interests the author as a historian. It is this interest that he prioritises, and it is the starting point of his considerations. He presents the book's heroine as a single person – an individual making life choices, having individual desires and expectations for herself. For this purpose, he uses traces – biographemes that show her as a private subject with a unique individual experience, the heroine of her own life. Biographemes are ethnographic information that identifies a private experience but does not provide insight into it. Therefore, the author simultaneously refers to biographemes and to a new model of femininity created by Lechicka's contemporaries – the "new and modern woman", constructed after World War I by the environment with which Lechicka was associated – homo academica. In parallel with his interest in Lechicka as an individual, the author deals with the cultural order and gender relations in interwar and post-war Polish historiography. It is considered from the perspective of Jadwiga Lechicka's experiences, her attitude towards herself and her activities related to education, professional work and family. Diagnosing Lechicka's case, he contextualises her biographemes into a consistent juxtaposition – thanks to the concept of sensitising order and gender relations – with the biographemes of other women and statistical data regarding them.</jats:p>
