Abstract
<jats:p>The purpose of the textbook is to analyze academic speech, to show the patterns of formation of the academic style. The academic style of speech is considered not in a purely philological aspect, but as an object that is equally important for general academic subjects that have an applied character. The main stages of the formation of knowledge and science are outlined, the stages of their understanding are highlighted in a historical context. Academic speech is analyzed as a way to describe an object of science using the means of the metalanguage. Special attention is paid to the development of issues of teaching academic speech, formulated in the framework of the competence approach. The textbook can be used at all the levels of training in the fields of philology, linguistics, translation and translation studies, teaching methods.</jats:p>
