Prospects for the use of cell technologies in the treatment of depression

<jats:p>The monograph reflects modern ideas about the role of immunocompetent cells and their cytokines in the pathogenesis of depression; presents priority data obtained in the laboratory of neuroimmunology of the Research Institute of Fundamental and Clinical Immunology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, demonstrating the ability of peripheral immunocompetent cells with functional activity modulated outside the body, or a complex of biologically active products of their secretome, by influencing the main pathophysiological mechanisms of depression to have a pronounced positive psychoneuroimmunomodulatory effect, editing depressive-like phenotype of recipients, which is an experimental basis for the development of a fundamentally new approach to immunotherapy of socially significant depressive disorders in humans using cellular technologies. The monograph is intended for researchers, medical specialists in various fields, as well as for undergraduates and students of higher educational institutions in medicine, biology, pharmacology, and psychology.</jats:p>
