Abstract
This chapter is an academic-activist report from the perspective of several members of the coordinating committee of Coloquio ¿Del otro la’o?: Perspectivas y debates sobre lo cuir. The biennial event has been held at the University of Puerto Rico–Mayagüez since 2006. Members of a small group of academics and activists based on Puerto Rico’s west coast are responsible for organizing the colloquium, and the chapter identifies and describes the event’s characteristics, achievements, and continuing challenges. It concludes with a few brief reflections on the changing politico-affective scapes of queer lives and struggles in Puerto Rico as reflected in the seventh and eighth events as well as some closing remarks on over a decade of voluntary work for the colloquium.
