Abstract
This study examines the extent to which Bahraini local newspapers employ infographics in their publications, identifies the predominant topics featured, and explores the influence of editorial policy on infographic design and content. Employing a content analysis methodology, the research analyzed 48 issues from four daily newspapers in the Kingdom of Bahrain—Akhbar Al Khaleej, Al Watan, Al Ayam, and Al Bilad—covering editions published during January, February, and March 2021.
The analysis identified 197 infographics across the sampled issues, with an average of slightly more than four per issue. Al Ayam recorded the highest number of infographics (58; 29.4%), followed closely by Al Watan (57; 28.9%). Internal pages contained the majority (126; 64%), while front pages featured 36 (18.3%). Most infographics incorporated a single logo (102; 51.8%) and objective imagery (96; 44.0%).
Regarding editorial orientation, community interest emerged as the most influential determinant (107; 35.8%), followed by economic (81; 27.1%) and security considerations (52; 17.4%). The findings indicate that Bahraini newspapers primarily use infographics to communicate issues of societal and economic relevance, reflecting editorial priorities that balance informative content with visual appeal. The study highlights the growing significance of data visualization in contemporary Bahraini journalism and emphasizes the need for strategic integration of design and editorial policy to enhance reader engagement and information accessibility.
