Abstract
Abstract
As it stands, there is a dearth of quality books, articles, studies, talks, and conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in all disciplines, professions, fields, and contexts. Despite this scarcity, DEI initiatives, policies, practices, and philosophical underpinnings provide critical frameworks for pushing back the violent aggression, senseless brutality, and rampant cruelty visited upon individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds at all levels. That is precisely why Obiakor, Gibson, and Rotatori’s book, Impacts of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on General and Special Education is so important and relevant at this historical juncture. This book augments the existing body of knowledge on implementing and sustaining DEI practices in a way that supports the growth and professional learning of teachers and other school personnel across their professional continuum. In other words, it emerges as a powerful and multidimensional tool that is intertwined with paradigm and power shifts at different levels of preservice and in-service professional experiences.
