Abstract

The impact of the construction industry on global development and climate change is gaining significant attention in recent decades. Unfortunately, the contribution of the construction industry to the development of developing and developed countries is often overlooked and shadowed by its impact on the environment. However, the construction industry is a vital sector contributing significantly to the economic growth, social security, and national prosperity, particularly in developing countries. Historically, Oman was a wealthy country with rich history and tradition, but this was followed by an era of drifting away from its past accomplishments. Therefore, for several decades, Oman was considered as an underdeveloped country. From the early 1970s to the current era, the country is witnessing a new cycle of development, which is dubbed as “The Renascence”. The main aims of this paper are to demonstrate the vital contribution of the construction industry to the development of the Sultanate of Oman during its renascence and to highlight the role of the construction industry as a driving force for greener future, in line with Oman Vision 2040.
