Abstract

Abstract
Floriculture has evolved as a potential area for agripreneurship by offering multiple opportunities across the value chain. India having rich geography and climate provides substantial resource advantages for cultivation and value addition in floriculture, especially in regions with ample bio-resources, like Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Traditionally, floriculture businesses have been male-dominated, with a low focus on business formalisation, high-end crop cultivation and commercialisation. Over the last few decades, the rise in the social–economic indicators along with government interventions, women are playing an active role towards enterprise development in the floriculture sector of J&K. This pragmatic shift has not only contributed to the entrepreneurship but also provided means of financial independence and an empowered position for women in the society. Moreover, these women-led enterprises have evolved as regional role models for others in the agriculture sector at the regional level, which was largely missing. The current stream of literature predominantly highlights floriculture enterprises largely operated by men while little attention has been given to women-led enterprises, especially in J&K. The current study aims to bridge this existing gap and provides useful insights towards performance and business operation mapping of women-led floriculture enterprises. Besides, it contributes to the development of academic and research theory-building concerning women entrepreneurship, especially in the agricultural sector and particularly in hill regions. This can be beneficial for policymakers and practitioners in drafting industry and gender-specific interventions for the strategic growth and development of women entrepreneurship.
