It clarifies that the age of the offender is important in relation to the court’s power to impose different types of sentences. Thus, the court holds the duty to determine the offender's age when a young person is brought before the court. The chapter explains the circumstances wherein the youth becomes an adult amidst the course of court proceedings. It also details the definitive guidelines and principles in sentencing children and young people, which includes the significant age threshold between the commission of offence and sentence.</jats:p>
