<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Einstein adjusted to his wife’s death; Margot and Dukas filled the gap of looking after him. Einstein began to play the violin less and the piano more. He became President of the Bloch Society. Margot and Marianoff separated. Einstein continued to help individual Jewish refugees, both musical and scientific. Infeld began to work with him; eventually, to support Infeld financially, Einstein and Infeld collaborated on a popular book: The Evolution of Physics is described. Infeld gained a permanent position and was succeeded as Einstein’s collaborator by Peter Bergmann. Einstein played a role in replacing Flexner as head of IAS. Einstein became engaged in the Civil Rights movement. He supported singer Marion Anderson. Grete Lebach visited Einstein during his summer vacation in 1937; she died of cancer in Vienna in 1938. Hans Albert made plans to move to the US; he got a position and arrived in the US with his family in June 1938; they spent time with Einstein at his Long Island vacation home. Their son Klaus died of diphtheria in January 1939. Betty Neumann also had Einstein’s help in emigrating to the US; they met infrequently after she arrived. Einstein continued to play in chamber-music groups in Princeton. Maja Winteler-Einstein left Italy because of Mussolini’s new anti-Semitic laws. She arrived in time for Einstein’s sixtieth birthday celebrations; there were many tributes. They attended concerts in aid of the Palestine Orchestra. Einstein had several engagements at the World’s Fair in New York.</jats:p>
