Abstract
Abstract
This chapter explores how to effectively integrate creative outlets, such as art and play, into solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) group interventions. This work transforms abstract therapeutic concepts into concrete, engaging, and enjoyable experiences for children and adolescents. Solution-focused art and games share a core value of putting clients at the center of their own experience; they value the client’s worldview, are action oriented, and focus on tangible outcomes. The structure of SFBT group therapy mirrors individual therapy, but offers the flexibility to adapt to the group’s dynamics. The typical flow includes building relationships, setting goals, identifying resources, exploring coping strategies and exceptions, maintaining change, and concluding with compliments. The role of the group facilitator is to help create supportive therapeutic space and to empower students to ask each other solution-focused questions, thus fostering peer collaboration. The group activities not only help students visualize their goals but also cultivate a collaborative, solution-focused environment and are a safe outlet for students to process emotion and connect with their peers on their feelings. A case study is included for an in-depth look at how to leverage group dynamics and utilize game activities in therapeutic settings.
