Abstract
Abstract
This chapter reviews treatment approaches for depression and bipolar disorder in adolescents, covering both psychosocial and pharmacological strategies. It examines therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), highlighting their effectiveness in alleviating depressive symptoms. The chapter also discusses psychopharmacological treatments, particularly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and antipsychotics such as fluoxetine and olanzapine. It also explores newer treatments, including ketamine and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), although evidence of their efficacy in adolescents remains limited. Finally, the chapter stresses the importance of early intervention, focusing on family therapy and psychoeducation to prevent symptom recurrence and improve long-term outcomes for adolescents with mood disorders.
