Abstract
This chapter discusses French sales of military planes to the Gaddafi government in Libya, which disturbed Israel and the Nixon administration. It also discusses the administration’s secret B-52 bombing of northern Laos (which was soon revealed by the press), the administration’s bombing of surface-to-air missile (SAM) sites and nearby locations in North Vietnam that it claimed were “protective reaction” against enemy fire, and its bombing in South Vietnam. It also goes into Kissinger’s negotiations with a Japanese emissary to limit Japanese textile exports to the United States. In addition, it discusses French journalist Danielle Hunebelle’s French television profile of Kissinger and her romantic interest in him.
