<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>In 1932, the Viennese-born physicist Paul Ehrenfest wrote a short memoir about his early years in Vienna in the years 1880–1890. It was the basis for this chapter, which describes how he grew up in an assimilated middle-class Jewish family in the sometimes hostile and anti-Semitic city.</jats:p>
