The Oxford Handbook of Hate Speech

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Many volumes covering the vast topic of free speech have been published in recent years, but this collection focuses entirely on the problem of hate speech. Authors from a range of disciplines examine how governments, civil society, and technology companies can respond in our era of exploding polarisation and populism. The collection addresses difficulties haunting the definition of hate speech, along with ongoing debates about the harms it causes, asking whether and how hate speech should be regulated by law. The discussions include international and comparative approaches, with special attention to growing problems of monitoring social media platforms.</jats:p>
