Abstract

Abstract
What, then, can we learn from our exploration of Indonesia’s social protection reform over the past 20 years? This chapter concludes the book with seven lessons learned that tie in all the stories told throughout the book—stories that are also relevant for researchers and policymakers beyond Indonesia. These lessons range from the importance of asking the “right” questions in policy research to the value of patience and humility. Rather than being limited to technical advice, these lessons are rooted in years of experience in collaborating with decision makers, bureaucrats, researchers, non-governmental organizations, and civil societies.
