Abstract

Abstract
This chapter examines how industrial-organizational (I-O) psychologists can leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to develop evidence-based workplace products. The chapter addresses two key challenges: low visibility among technology developers and lack of product mindset among practitioners. Product mindset involves understanding user needs and guiding solutions from concept to market success. AI enhances each development stage through pattern identification, automated survey creation, user story generation, alternative version analysis, and marketing optimization. Critical threats include AI hallucinations that misinterpret psychological constructs, ethical concerns around worker privacy, legal vulnerabilities, and explainability challenges with black box algorithms. The chapter presents cutting-edge applications including emotional sensing technology and computational grounded theory for organizational culture analysis. By adopting AI as a collaborative tool while maintaining scientific rigor, I-O psychologists can create research-backed products that address workplace needs and compete effectively in the human resources technology market.
