Abstract
Abstract
The authors of the present chapter illustrate the use of routine outcome monitoring (ROM), for both clinical and empirical purposes, at a psychiatric hospital in Western Australia. The process that led to the adoption of ROM in this setting is first described. This is followed by a description of how ROM has been adapted to address clinical needs, in terms of how it is delivered and what it is measuring (i.e., risks for therapy-interfering behaviors and dropout from group psychotherapy). The authors describe how ROM integrated new learnings that have moved the service toward their overall goal of improving the mental health outcomes for patients and sharing these new insights with the wider community. Finally, extensions of practice-based data collected via ROM are discussed, including treatment readmission.
