Abstract
Abstract
This entry provides an overview of the impact that the introduction of multimodal digital tools has had on language learning and teaching. Accelerated by the COVID pandemic, these tools allow the user to combine textual, linguistic, spatial, and visual modes to make meaning both inside and outside the classroom. While this opens up new opportunities for learning “in the wild,” teachers and learners also need to be aware of the disruptive impact of digital mediation. Thus, training for both teachers and students is vital to ensure that they are able to benefit from these opportunities, and ongoing research remains crucial to guide effective integration.
