<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Editing and revision play crucial roles in ensuring quality in the publishing and translation industries, yet their significance often goes unnoticed. Editors and revisors are responsible for identifying and making necessary corrections and improvements in draft texts, be it original texts and translations, to meet predefined quality standards. This entry addresses the terminological confusion surrounding the concepts of editing and revision while also exploring related terms such as monolingual and bilingual editing, copy editing, textual editing, transediting, pre‐editing, post‐editing, self‐revision, other‐revision, and review. The text discusses the diverse nature and scope of editing and revision practices, as well as the debated value of these gatekeeping activities by considering preferential changes. The domains of editing and revision have undergone and continue to undergo transformations due to the influence of generative AI and translation technology, including computer‐assisted tools (CATs) and machine translation (MT). As a result, the boundaries between translation, revision, and editing in professional translation practice have become increasingly blurred and will continue to evolve.</jats:p>
