<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Janet Ainsworth is John D. Eshelman Professor of Law Emerita at Seattle University and Research Professor at the Research Center for Legal Translation, China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing. Ainsworth is a prominent figure in the field of language and law, with wide‐ranging interests in the ways in which law, language, and culture intersect. She is especially well‐known for her impressive body of scholarship, her highly engaging presentations, and her generous mentorship. This biography delves into each of these areas, tracing her diverse educational trajectory from East Asian Studies to law school; her career path as a public defender and professor of legal scholarship; and her impressive portfolio of publications that fall into four domains: police discourse, pragmatics and culture, vulnerable populations within the legal system, and ethics. Also detailed is Ainsworth's award‐winning dedication to her students, her peers, and the wider professional and academic communities.</jats:p>
