Abstract

Abstract
This article discusses the use of corpora in forensic linguistics, which covers the areas where language and law intersect. It has diverse applications involving language analysis in legal and investigative contexts. Thus, we will consider forensic linguistics in its broad and strict definitions and present the use of forensic corpora made up of known and/or questioned documents, as well as existing reference corpora that may assist the forensic linguist. Furthermore, we will propose statistical techniques for automated text classification useful for forensic linguists, illustrating them with contemporary, real‐world examples.
