English in Brazil

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p> We build on previous discussions over English in Brazil (particularly since 2020) in order to review how the language has been tied to discourses of socioeconomic development and scientific advancement in that country. This is followed by a discussion on the ways in which decoloniality has affected <jats:named-content content-type="term-definition">English language teaching</jats:named-content> ( <jats:named-content content-type="abbreviation">ELT</jats:named-content> ) in Brazil and the possible outcomes of such impact. </jats:p>
