Abstract

Abstract
This entry introduces the concept of participation through an interactional lens, conceptualizing it as a turn‐by‐turn process that is context‐shaped and context‐renewing. It first explores the foundational theoretical perspectives on this dimension of human interaction and then presents an overview of an analytic framework capable of explaining how participation is co‐constructed and organized through embodied actions within specific interactional contexts. Finally, the article focuses on the dynamics of conjoined participation, a less explored aspect that contributes to reconsidering some principles regarding sequential organization, turn‐taking, and the individual ownership of interactional units.
