Abstract
Abstract
Inequality is a concept that is being profusely discussed since the 17th century. Discourse approaches to this issue are more recent and are particularly related to the emergence of the critical perspective in discourse studies. In this presentation, we first provide a brief introduction of the topic, and then we focus on the problem of social inequality caused by poverty from an intersectional and decolonial perspective. There are also other entries about racial and gender inequalities in this encyclopedia (see references at the end of this entry). We emphasize more recent research (especially from Latin America, where they have been developed), although some classical studies are also mentioned due to their centrality.
