Abstract
<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>In the past decade, qualitative research has increasingly gained the attention of many scholars in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) for the investigations of ICT‐based language education. This entry sheds light on the latest advancements in ICT and the trends in qualitative research on ICT in language education. The following new trends have emerged in the field: (a) increased attention to contextualization; (b) heightened focus on the learning process; and (c) greater emphasis on teacher professional development. These new trends require the adoption of innovative qualitative approaches, especially to collect new types of data sources and to adopt new or combined theoretical frameworks, and new analytic approaches.</jats:p>
